About
My principal research interests regard medieval settlement formation and characterisation, landscape studies and human ecology; medieval chronology; ceramic studies. Thus I am conducting a large scale field survey of Salento (southern Apulia), and a number of excavations, including the DMVs at Supersano and Apigliano, an abandoned medieval site on the Alimini lakes, and the castle of Charles V (Carlo V) in Lecce. I firmly believe in furthering public interest in archaeology and the past, which is why a lot of time is devoted to publication and the creation of local museums (Muro Leccese, Lecce, Supersano, and the archaeological park of Apigliano). Outside Italy, I am conducting research on the Byzantine and Turkish phases of Hierpolis in Phrygia, and have worked extensively on Chersonesos in the Ukraine.
To turn a page, I am also researching French art nouveau ceramics. Attention is being given to lesser-known ceramic artists and ateliers including the "Atelier de Glatigny" and Alfred le Chatelier, the Baudins, Delbet, the ceramics edited by Leonce Moline (Galerie Lafitte), Jules Wolf, and others.
